My friends and I had the best experience with AKT! We were a group of 14 girls and we walked the vulcano with three really good tour guides. They helped us with everything we needed, including altitude sickness! They listened to our walking pace and we took short breaks whenever we needed. I would really recommend this tour! My boyfriend and I recently hiked acatenango with AKT tours. The hike was extremely challenging but the tour guides were amazing and helped us push through it. Our tour guides were Fulgencio and Arturo and they were the best. They were both super kind, helpful, and supportive. I was struggling a bit during the hike and went a slower pace than the group we were with and Arturo stayed by my side the entire time and never made me feel bad for going a bit slower. I also enjoyed the smaller group (ours was a group of 7) and the food provided was pretty good. Highly recommend.

Incredible experience! My friend and I can from the US and did the Acatenango overnight hike with AKT Tours. There was only 10 people total in our group, everyone was so nice and we became good friends. The accommodations had incredible views of the eruptions and we didn’t have any problems with being cold. Our guides were fantastic and stopped plenty of times to ensure we were all safe and hydrated. One of the guides brought his dog Toby with us and it was so fun having him around, as well as the countless other dogs who followed us. Food was good and there was plenty of stands to stop and grab more water. Base camp hike was not to bad at all, fuego was definitely challenging but the guides made it so much better by helping. They provided us with gloves, jacket, backpack, food, headlamp, and a wooden walking stick (I would’ve brought my out if I knew it was just a wooden stick, but it was plenty sturdy and got the job done). AKT Tours also has a private path for part of the way so we didn’t have to wait for traffic or be cluttered with other hikers. I would definitely recommend choosing AKT Tours for this hike as it is way more personal and engaging with the whole group. The Acatenango hike was the highlight of my entire Guatemala & El Salvador backpacking trip & I couldn’t have chosen a better company than AKT Tours!

I actually got food poisoning & had to cancel my original booking with another tour company. Unfortunately, they handled the cancellation poorly & I lost the full cost of the tour. I ended up extending my trip just to make this hike happen & rebooking with AKT turned out to be the best decision I could have made.

From the very beginning, everything was seamless. They picked me up at my favorite café near my hotel in Antigua, and on the drive, Andres shared fascinating info about Mayan history & the surrounding volcanoes. Our group was only four hikers, yet there was no xtra charge for such a small group…it honestly felt like a private tour!

AKT also let us securely store our xtra travel belongings at their office, which has incredible views overlooking the valley. They provide all the gear you need, though you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

BIG shoutout to our guide, Caramelo - he was absolutely incredible. Fluent in both English & Spanish, he made everyone feel included & our group of 5 (4 hikers + Caramelo) felt like friends within hours. He was knowledgeable, encouraging & always transparent about the weather conditions, putting safety above everything else while still making the experience unforgettable.

If you’re considering hiking Acatenango, I wholeheartedly recommend AKT Tours. Their professionalism, small groups, exceptional guides & genuine care for their guests made this one of the best tours I’ve ever taken.
